The sleepy late-summer routine of downtown Paint Lick was interrupted one fine day in September 2003 when PBS television personality Roy Underhill and his production crew stopped by to visit Don Weber. Roy and his seven-member team spent the whole day at Handcraft Woodworks, taping a segment of "The Woodwright's Shop," and having plenty of good fun in the bargain.

It didn't take long for the TV crew to transform the premises into a soundstage, with cameras, lights and lots of audio and video recording equipment -- a stark contrast to the 17th-Century woodworking atmosphere of Don's shop.

When all the TV equipment was up and running, the taping commenced. Roy and Don spent the majority of the session in the upstairs shop, talking about the tools and techniques of the bodger's trade...

...but they also spent some time in Don's ground level blacksmith shop in the rear of the building, where Don forges his hardware and tools.

At the end of the taping, Roy, Don and the crew celebrated a successful day with some crackling-cold brew. Everyone would like to "do it again sometime real soon."
